Qiao Family Glazed Ware
The craft of glazed ware has a long history and traditional techniques in ancient Jincheng, but the most renowned is the Qiao Family Glazed Ware from Yangcheng County. The Qiao family, a well-known dynasty of glazed ware artisans in Yangcheng, specialized in the production of black and green porcelain as well as glazed products, earning widespread fame and becoming known as Qiao Family Glazed Ware.
The glazed pagoda at Shousheng Temple in Yangcheng County (built during the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era) and the pavilion-style glazed finial atop the main ridge of the Dongyue Temple Dance Tower (built in the first year of the Ming Longqing era) both feature Qiao Family Glazed Ware. Due to the fine quality of Qiao Family Glazed Ware, the glazed lions in the Ming Dynasty Forbidden City and some of the glazed products in the Ming Thirteen Tombs were also made by the Qiao family of Yangcheng. Today, the glaze colors have expanded to more than ten varieties, and the products are exported overseas.
