Xinhui Reclamation Taro
Xinhui Reclamation Taro — A renowned, high-quality, and newly developed agricultural product of Jiangmen City
Taro, also known as dasheen or taro root, is the underground corm of plants in the Araceae family. Its shape and flesh texture vary by variety, but the small taro is most commonly consumed. It is a perennial tuber plant, often cultivated as an annual crop. The leaves are shield-shaped, with long, thick petioles that are green or purplish-red. At the base of the plant, a shortened stem forms, gradually accumulating nutrients and swelling into a fleshy corm, called "taro" or "mother taro." These can be spherical, oval, elliptical, or block-shaped. Each node of the mother taro has a bud, but the buds at the middle and lower nodes are the most vigorous, giving rise to the first tillers that form small corms called "daughter taros." Daughter taros then produce "granddaughter taros," and under suitable conditions, great-granddaughter or even great-great-granddaughter taros may form.
