Gaoping has long been known as the "Hometown of Pears." The area produces over ten varieties of pears, including Big Yellow Pears, Shaved Pears, and Summer Pears. As early as the Sui Dynasty, these pears were honored as tribute fruits for the royal family. The Big Yellow Pears of Gaoping are known for their rich flavor, pleasant aroma, sweet taste, and high content of various vitamins and minerals. Among them, those produced in Tielu Village, Chentuzhou Town, are considered the highest quality and are commonly referred to as "Tielu Pears."

The main producing areas of Gaoping Big Yellow Pears are located in Sizhuang, Yonglu, Fushan, Zhaozhuang, Yechuan, Chenqu, Tuanchi, and Chengguan districts of Gaoping City. These pears are large, uniformly sized, and bright yellow in color, with a rough skin that has a waxy coating, making them highly resistant to storage. The flesh is white, juicy, crisp, and pleasantly sweet with a balanced acidity. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, they were served as tribute to the imperial court. The edible portion of the fruit accounts for 86% of its weight, containing 3.9% sugar, 0.33% acid, as well as various amino acids and vitamins. They help clear internal heat, moisten the lungs, and aid digestion. (Gaoping)

Modern medical research has found that Big Yellow Pears contain carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamin C, and organic acids. With a mild nature and slightly sweet and astringent taste, they help relieve summer heat, quench thirst, aid digestion, and alleviate diarrhea. The juice of the Big Yellow Pear contains an enzyme similar to gastric juice, which can break down proteins and assist digestion—making it beneficial to eat a few slices after meals, especially after consuming meat or greasy food. Additionally, the sugars, salts, and enzymes in Big Yellow Pears have diuretic properties and offer supportive dietary therapy benefits for conditions such as nephritis, hypertension, edema, bronchitis, and coughs.

Gaoping Big Yellow Pears are cultivated in the towns and townships of Hexi, Macun, Mishan, Sizhuang, Chenqu, Yechuan, Sanjia, Beishi, Shennong, Jianning, Shimow, Yuancun, and Yonglu in Gaoping City.
