Duma Lily Bulb
Duma Lily Bulb is a geographically indicated agricultural product.
Pinglu County has a long history of cultivating lily bulbs. As early as the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, lilies from the Duma area were listed as tributes to the imperial palace. By the 18th year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty, Duma lily bulbs were included in the national "Famous Products Record," gaining fame both domestically and abroad and earning the title "Zhongtiao Ginseng."
Lily bulbs are perennial herbaceous plants that bloom in summer, resembling the red spider lily, which is why some also call the red spider lily a wild lily. The most distinctive features of the lily are its straight stem, green color, vibrant flowers, strong fragrance, and high medicinal value. Its underground bulb is made up of multiple heads clustered together, with each head composed of several scale-like segments that resemble a garlic bulb. Throughout history, its flower color has been praised in countless ways—poets such as Xiao Cha from the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Lu You from the Song Dynasty, essayist Su Zhe, and contemporary writer Guo Moruo all wrote verses in high admiration of the flower. Lily bulbs are rich in protein, sugar, starch, and various vitamins, offering benefits such as clearing the heart, calming the nerves, soothing, moistening the lungs, relieving coughs, and promoting diuresis. They are considered a premium tonic. The flowers and stems, when ground into powder, have hemostatic effects, while the bulbs are nutritious, helping to expel phlegm, improve digestion, and promote blood circulation. In the county, many patients suffering from liver disease, stomach disease, lung disease, and anemia have used steamed lily bulbs as a remedy.
