Pinglu Tobacco Leaves

Primarily distributed in the townships east of the county seat, with the highest concentration in Caochuan, Podi, and Sanmen townships. The tobacco fields cover an area of over 20,000 mu, yielding 50,000–60,000 dan of high-quality tobacco leaves annually.

Pinglu County has a terrain that is higher in the north and lower in the south, featuring sunny terraced slopes with abundant sunlight, high accumulated annual temperatures, and a long frost-free period. Its natural geographical conditions are similar to those of Yuxi Prefecture in Yunnan. Moreover, 85% of the county’s 550,000 mu of arable land consists of red and yellow loam soil, which is ideal for producing high-quality tobacco leaves. As a result, Pinglu tobacco leaves are known for their excellent quality. Analyzed and appraised by multiple research institutions, including the Tobacco Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Henan Tobacco Research Institute, and the Shanxi Tobacco Research Institute, Pinglu tobacco leaves are described as “rich and full-bodied, with moderate thickness, strong aroma, pleasant aftertaste, high combustibility, and well-balanced chemical composition.” They were awarded the Gold Prize at the first Shanxi Provincial Agricultural Expo in 1993. The product is primarily supplied to Taiyuan Cigarette Factory in Shanxi, and is also sold in Henan, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Ningxia, as well as Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, and Guangxi. In 1998, 200 dan were exported to Russia.
