Pinglu Kiwifruit
A deciduous woody vine plant, known as the "King of Fruits," ranking first among the world's top ten famous fruits. It is considered the best nutritional food for professionals in industries such as aerospace, diving, and mountaineering. Mainly grown in the Zhongtiao Mountain area, it contains 13 amino acids required by living organisms, including tyrosine, as well as proteolytic enzymes. Each 100 grams of fresh fruit contains 5–10 times more vitamin C than grapefruit, 6–12 times more than citrus fruits, and dozens of times more than apples. It is also rich in sugar and minerals, earning the reputation of a "health-promoting fruit." Studies suggest it has varying degrees of therapeutic effects on conditions such as hemorrhoids, white hair, leprosy, and bone joint disorders. It can help treat indigestion and vomiting, and may have preventive and therapeutic benefits against gastric and esophageal cancers. The extract from kiwifruit roots can kill various pests. Its branches and bark can be used to produce adhesive solutions used in the construction industry, making it a plant with many valuable uses.
In 1980, the Ministry of Agriculture used wild kiwifruit from the Heyugou area of Pinglu County to graft and improve, cultivating five superior strains including Pinglu “8404,” Pinglu No. 4, and Pinglu No. 5. After successful trial planting in areas such as Zhangcun and Hancun, these varieties were promoted. In recent years, Pinglu kiwifruit has been sold across the country, with an annual production of over one million kilograms.
