Chengbu Job's Tears
In the Miao Ridge Villages of Chengbu, there grows a type of grass-like plant. Though resembling rice, it is not rice. Its seeds are pearly white and crystal-clear, shining like pearls—this is Chengbu Job's Tears, also known as "Dragon Pearl Rice." It is a grain crop, also referred to as one of the "six grains." Chengbu Job's Tears are plump, pearly white, sweet and delicious. They are not only a premium food, but also offer medicinal benefits such as strengthening the spleen, nourishing the kidneys, clearing heat, and dispelling wind. They can help treat conditions like cardiac edema, weak spleen and stomach, and chronic enteritis. With high nutritional value, they contain about 17% protein—twice that of regular rice. They are rich in starch, sugar, and various amino acids essential to the human body. Especially high in Vitamin B1, they make an excellent tonic.
Chengbu County in Hunan Province is known for producing Job's Tears and has long been honored as the "Hometown of Job's Tears."
