Huaihui Flower Rice Cake
Flower rice cake is a traditional handicraft food hand-shaped by Dong women. It serves both as an ornamental item and a delicious treat, making it a top choice for gifts during festivals and a delightful dish to serve honored guests.
The cake is made by grinding high-quality glutinous rice into fine powder, mixing it with water to form rice dough balls of varying sizes, and then shaping them using the skilled hands of women. Through pinching, twisting, rolling, pressing, and pounding, they create various forms before steaming the dough in a pot, drying it, and then applying coloring, gold leaf, and detailing such as painting eyes.
The finished flower rice cakes feature vibrant colors and lively designs, coming in a wide range of shapes such as birds, fish, dragonflies, rabbits, piglets, puppies, flowers, and grass. Skilled artisans can also craft more intricate figures, including characters from traditional stories like “Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai,” “The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea,” “Meng Jiangnu Searching for Her Husband,” and “Guanyin of the South Sea.”
