Yongshun Persimmons
Yongshun Persimmons
A local specialty of Yongshun, the main varieties include Large Grindstone Persimmon, Lotus Persimmon, Water Persimmon, and Crystal Persimmon. Their shapes range from oval to flattened sphere, and their colors vary from orange-yellow, bright yellow, to vermilion. The calyx remains dark green and shriveled. They bloom from May to June, producing elegant and attractive yellowish-white flowers. The fruit ripens during the golden autumn months of September to October. Yongshun persimmons are large in size, with thick, juicy flesh that is sweet in taste, rich in nutrients such as sugar, protein, and vitamins. They can be used for making wine, dried persimmons, and extracting persimmon frost. Unripe fruits can be processed into persimmon lacquer. Once the astringency is removed, they can be eaten raw. They offer health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, relieving hangovers, and treating stomach ailments.
