Zhuxi Organic Green Tea
At the Sixth China Specialties Culture Festival held in late October 2004, Zhuxi County was named the “Hometown of Chinese Organic Green Tea.” The city of Shiyan gained another “green” gold-plated title. The natural conditions in Zhuxi County are well-suited for growing organic green tea. The county has introduced nine high-quality tea varieties such as “Fuding” and “Wuniucao,” established over 80,000 acres of organic tea plantations, and produces more than 1.4 million kilograms of organic tea annually.
Tea farms across the county have widely adopted pollution-free management and clean production practices: disinfection before planting, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides during the growth period, reliance on biological pest control, and heavy use of organic manure; smoking, drinking, and makeup are prohibited in production workshops. Testing by the China National Center for Quality Supervision and Test of Tea Products showed that pesticide and chemical residue levels in Zhuxi tea are only one twentieth of the national standard limits. Three brands of green tea have received green food quality system certification. According to tests by the Swiss Institute for Market Ecology, Longwangya tea meets EU organic agricultural product standards and has been approved for export to the EU for three and a half years.
