“Lunan Dried Shrimp” is one of the famous “Three Grains of Eastern Hebei,” made from white-haired sea shrimp. Because the shrimp's body, whiskers, and meat are all white, ancient poets once wrote, “Curved little bodies with jade-like waists, two-inch silver whiskers and one-inch flesh.” Lunan Dried Shrimp has a slightly salty taste, is rich in nutrition, and tastes delicious, containing plenty of protein and vitamins. Deeply loved by people, it is a premium gift for friends and family and one of the famous local specialties of Luannan County.
“Lunan Dried Shrimp” is produced in the southern coastal areas of the county, especially around Nanpu and Liuzan, where it has a production history of over 400 years. During spring and autumn seasons, fishermen use set nets and frame nets to catch fresh shrimp. The caught shrimp are then boiled in boiling saltwater until about 80% cooked, quickly removed, dried, and placed in cloth bags or fine-mesh nets before being beaten against walls to separate the shells from the meat. Finally, they are winnowed with a sieve to complete the process.
Apart from meeting local demand, most Lunan Dried Shrimp is sold to Beijing, Tianjin, the Northeast, and other regions.
