Xinxian Peanuts

　　Xinxian peanuts are a specialty of Xinxian County in Xinyang City, Henan Province. Located in the transitional zone between subtropical and warm temperate climates, Xinxian enjoys abundant sunlight, mild weather, and ample rainfall, making it suitable for the growth of various plants and animals. It is one of the most suitable regions in Henan Province for peanut cultivation.

　　Since 2002, the Xinxian Agricultural Bureau has vigorously promoted the production of mulched peanuts, establishing a 3,000-mu demonstration base for mulched peanut production, which has driven the development of 20,000 mu of mulched peanuts across the county. With the promotion and application of mulched peanut technology, peanut yields in Xinxian have steadily increased and quality has gradually improved. Compared to open-field cultivation, mulched peanuts can yield an additional 200 kilograms per mu and generate 600 yuan more in income. The total peanut cultivation area in the county is 30,000 mu, producing 9 million kilograms of peanuts annually, with a total output value of 30 million yuan. Peanuts are one of the main oil crops in Xinxian and have become a pillar industry for increasing farmers’ income.
