Xinxian Chestnuts
Xinxian chestnuts are a specialty of Xinxian County, Xinyang City, Henan Province. Xinxian chestnuts are known for their early market availability, large size, thin shells, abundant flesh, and excellent taste. Xinxian is recognized as the “Hometown of Chestnuts” among China’s nationally renowned, high-quality, and distinctive economic forest regions.
Located in the heart of the Dabie Mountains and on the watershed between the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers, Xinxian has vast mountainous areas that are particularly suitable for chestnut cultivation. The county ranks first in Henan Province in both chestnut planting area and production. Currently, the chestnut orchard area covers 343,000 mu, and it is reported that the annual chestnut yield has reached 24 million kilograms, earning Xinxian the title of the “Hometown of Chestnuts” among China’s nationally renowned, high-quality, and distinctive economic forest regions.
With abundant rainfall, fertile soil, and ample sunlight, the favorable natural ecological environment gives Xinxian chestnuts their exceptional quality. Their early market availability, large size, thin shells, abundant flesh, and excellent taste have helped Xinxian chestnuts gain a strong market presence. Xinyang’s Xinxian County is home to the largest chestnut sales market in China—the Lijiazhai Town Chestnut Wholesale Market in Xinyang City.
