Laiwu Stir-Fried Chicken has attracted diners from all over with its rich flavor, rustic charm, and great value. Eating Laiwu Stir-Fried Chicken has become a vibrant highlight in Laiwu’s dining scene today—not only is it extremely popular locally, but it has also expanded to nearby cities such as Tai’an, Linyi, Xintai, and Boshan.

The origins of Laiwu Stir-Fried Chicken can be traced back to Jialing Mountain, located northeast of Laiwu City. This mountain lies along the route from Laiwu to the famous porcelain capital of Boshan. Due to the winding, rugged mountain roads, dense forests, and sparse population, drivers and travelers passing through often struggled to find places to eat. Local entrepreneurs spotted an opportunity and set up makeshift sheds in scenic, open areas, building earthen stoves. Using locally sourced free-range chickens, they would slaughter the birds in front of customers and slow-cook them over a wood fire using traditional farmhouse methods. In about the time it takes to brew a pot of tea, a hearty plate of home-style stir-fried chicken was served. The dish featured large chunks of soy-sauce-marinated chicken paired with brown pine mushrooms, bright green celery, tender and translucent bean starch sheets, all in a generous, steaming broth that emitted a rich, mouthwatering aroma. Paired with the stir-fried chicken, diners could also order a few side dishes—either stir-fried or tossed field greens—and simple, affordable home-style snacks. Surrounded by the captivating beauty of the mountain scenery, breathing in the fresh air, it was the perfect way to shake off the dust and fatigue of travel. As cars sped along, the popularity of this dish spread far and wide, and the fame of “Jialing Stir-Fried Chicken” grew. Eventually, city dwellers began driving here with family and friends specifically to enjoy the dish, further boosting business. The savvy mountain folks have now even brought their stir-fried chicken restaurants into the city.
