Xingguo Jiushan Ginger
Xingguo Jiushan Ginger
Renowned through the ages, according to the "Yuanhe Junxian Zhi" in the "New Book of Tang," Jiushan Ginger was designated as a tribute item of Qianzhou (present-day Ganzhou City) during the Tang Dynasty. Even today, it continues to enjoy great fame, being exported to Southeast Asian nations and the regions of Hong Kong and Macau. The ginger is known for its golden-yellow skin, bright color, tender and plump flesh, thick yet stringless texture, sweet-spicy flavor, suitability for cooking without overpowering other ingredients, and ease of storage. Hence, it has earned the praise: “Sweet, fragrant, and spicy Jiushan Ginger surpasses the produce of eighteen nearby villages; tender as winter bamboo shoots and sweet as lotus roots—when one household cooks it, the aroma fills the whole village.” It can be used to treat symptoms such as stomach and abdominal cold pain, deficiency-cold vomiting and diarrhea, poor appetite, indigestion, wind-cold colds, coughs, and headaches. Not only is it an excellent seasoning, but it can also be processed into products such as pickled ginger, sweet ginger, ginger slices, ginger powder, ginger oil, sugar-coated ginger slices, and five-flavor ginger. Foods made with this ginger are convenient to eat, appetizing, refreshing, heart- and brain-strengthening, and youth-enhancing, making them ideal for home and travel, suitable for all ages. Jiushan Ginger has become a leading industry in Xingguo County, with an average annual output of 20,000 tons.
