Chentian Village Oolong Tea
Chentian Village in Wuhuo Town has a long history of tea production, with villagers primarily engaged in tea cultivation, production, and business. However, for a long time, like other areas in eastern Fujian, the village faced stagnant incomes despite increased yields due to limited tea varieties and outdated processing methods. By 2007, the market price of fresh tea leaves had dropped to around 1 RMB per jin. To break out of this predicament, in May 2007, the village adopted a market-oriented approach, leveraging its advantages in mountainous terrain and climate, and introduced new oolong tea varieties such as "Jinguanyin" to upgrade the old tea gardens across the village. Seizing the opportunity, the village planted new oolong tea varieties like Jinguanyin. With careful management, income began to rise by 2009. The price of fresh tea leaves increased from around 1 RMB per jin for the old varieties to several dozen RMB per jin, greatly boosting the income of tea farmers.
