Mainly produced in areas such as Jinzishan of Dahuaping in Huoshan, Jinzhuping of Manshuihe, and Jiugongshan of Shangshishi. Huoshan Yellow Sprout has a long history. As early as the Tang Dynasty, there are records of "Yellow Sprout from Huoshan in Shouzhou," and Wang Xiangya’s *Qunfang Pu* from the Ming Dynasty also describes it as "a fine variety of Yellow Sprout from Huoshan in Shouzhou." The area around Jinzishan features short sunlight hours, persistent fog, cool and moist conditions, and fertile soil, which provide ideal growing conditions for the “Yellow Sprout.” The tea buds here are tender and the leaves are plump, resulting in a uniquely high-quality tea. The tea leaves are tightly rolled, shaped like sparrow tongues, golden in color with visible white fuzz, and yield a yellow-green liquor with a rich, mellow, and sweet taste, accompanied by chestnut aroma. Premium “Huoshan Yellow Sprout” features tightly twisted strips resembling lotus hearts, with a tender yellow and glossy appearance. The buds and leaves stand out individually, the liquor is bright and clear yellow, the aroma is fresh and clean.
Huoshan Yellow Sprout tea has a long and storied history. Historical records indicate that it originated in the Tang Dynasty and was offered as a tribute to the imperial court. This tradition continued through successive dynasties. Over time, its production has expanded, processing techniques have improved, and quality has been refined. Since the reform and opening-up period, the production and sales of Huoshan Yellow Sprout have grown rapidly, and it is now ranked among China’s famous teas.
Huoshan Yellow Sprout is primarily produced in mountainous regions above 600 meters in elevation within our county, such as Jinzhuping, Jinjishan, Jinjiawan, and Wumijian. These areas feature high mountains, abundant fog, plentiful rainfall, high relative humidity, ample diffused light, significant diurnal temperature variations, loose and fertile soil with a pH of around 5.5, and lush forests alongside tea plantations—providing an excellent ecological environment highly suitable for tea tree growth.
The quality characteristics of Huoshan Yellow Sprout include: tightly straight yet slightly unfolded strips, uniformly shaped and bud-rich, resembling sparrow tongues, tender green with white fuzz, a lasting and fragrant aroma, a fresh, mellow, rich taste with a sweet aftertaste, and a bright, clear yellow-green liquor with tender yellow and shiny leaves. Its production process includes five steps: fixation (raw pot and cooked pot), first firing, spreading, final firing, and sorting & refiring. The “Qingming” brand Huoshan Yellow Sprout, a product registered by Anhui Huoshan Lüli Eco-Products Co., Ltd., is the leading brand of Huoshan Yellow Sprout tea. It is a unique Huoshan Yellow Sprout developed by Cheng Junsheng, the sole inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Huoshan Yellow Sprout. In addition to possessing the typical qualities of Huoshan Yellow Sprout, it excels further in terms of color, aroma, taste, and appearance. The product is mainly sold in cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, as well as Hefei and Huainan in the province. In recent years, it has also been exported to Germany and the United States.
