Jinzhai County hickory nuts, also known as Dabie Mountain hickory nuts, are a mutant variety that evolved through long-term geological and climatic changes in the Dabie Mountains. As a new type of hickory nut, they are characterized by large fruit size, thin shells, high kernel yield, and high oil extraction rate. They are the only hickory nut species growing on weathered granite soil. Compared to the other five hickory nut species in China, they contain more potassium, sodium, magnesium, and other nutrients, making them more nutritious. Experts have stated that Jinzhai Dabie Mountain hickory nuts are currently among the finest hickory nut varieties in China, with broad development prospects and great potential. Jinzhai County currently has nearly 40,000 mu of hickory nut plantations. For many years, these nuts have remained “hidden deep in the mountains, unknown to the public,” existing entirely in the wild, growing and dying without human interference, leaving this precious resource underutilized. Since the year 2000, they have been gradually discovered, drawing social attention and attracting experts, scholars, and merchants alike.
