Last updated 2026-11-09 — Xinhe Jujube is a variety of the Po jujube. It is mainly grown in the Xinhe area of Xingtai, but Xinhe serves as its primary production hub—hence the name Xinhe Jujube. Because it suffers very little from pest infestation, virtually free of insect damage, it is also commonly referred to as the "pest-free jujube."

Xinhe Jujube

Xinhe Jujube is a variety of the Po jujube. It is distributed across the Xinhe region of Xingtai, but Xinhe is its concentrated production area, which is why it is called Xinhe Jujube. Due to minimal pest issues and almost no insect damage, it is also known as the insect-free jujube.

Xinhe Jujube features a thin skin, thick flesh, and a deep purplish-red color that is glossy and shiny. It has a high sugar content, and when eaten fresh, it offers a pleasantly sweet and sour taste with an excellent flavor and superior quality. It ranked among the top in the provincial jujube evaluation competitions. It has also been awarded the title of high-quality product at both ministerial and provincial forestry (agricultural) product expos.

Xinhe Jujube is highly nutritious, rich in vitamin C, and contains various amino acids as well as essential minerals such as iron, phosphorus, and calcium. Like other types of jujubes, it holds significant medicinal value. It helps invigorate qi and promote fluid production, nourishes blood and beauty, regulates the spleen and strengthens the stomach, offering a range of therapeutic benefits. It has shown certain curative effects on conditions such as anemia, hypertension, coronary heart disease, septicemia, and even cancer. It is considered an essential tonic and health food.

In addition to being eaten fresh, Xinhe Jujube can be processed into a variety of foods such as jujube cakes, jujube rolls, jujube steamed buns, jujube pastries, jujube porridge, and zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). It can also be made into over ten popular processed products including jujube extract, jujube vinegar, jujube wine, jujube jam, candied jujube, crispy jujube, and black jujube.

Xinhe Jujube is drought-resistant, waterlogging-tolerant, and adaptable to saline-alkali soils and poor growing conditions. It is labor-saving and easy to manage. Typically, it begins to bear fruit and yield about four years after planting, while also being highly productive. It is one of the preferred and superior varieties of red jujube for cultivation.
