Dangtu Turquoise
Dangtu Turquoise
Turquoise, also known as Turkish jade, is a hydrated copper aluminum phosphate mineral. Its craft name is "songshi" (松石), and it is one of the oldest types of jade. The rare treasure "He Shi Bi" from the Spring and Autumn Period was carved from turquoise. Its distinctive blue luster represents warmth and life, and is synonymous with good fortune, eternity, and success. In global jewelry traditions, turquoise is designated as the birthstone for December, symbolizing success and triumph. The turquoise from Ma'anshan amazes gem and jewelry professionals with its unique columnar form found nowhere else in the world. It is formed when copper-rich hydrothermal fluids alter columnar apatite within iron ore veins. The stone is pure in texture, displaying rich and vibrant hues ranging from blue-green to sea-blue, with a Mohs hardness of 4–5. Twelve precious columnar crystal clusters of the raw ore have been mined. Various exquisitely carved turquoise ornaments and sculptures made from these high-quality raw materials are rare collectibles and exhibition pieces for both individuals and institutions.
