　　　　Legend has it that Wu Zixu once fought in Cicheng. Before his death, he told his subordinates: “If the country faces hardship and the people run out of food, go three feet beneath the city wall and you will find grain.” After Wu Zixu’s death, his soldiers were besieged by the Yue army, and the city ran out of food, resulting in many deaths from starvation. At that time, someone remembered Wu Zixu’s words and went to dig beneath the city wall. Digging more than three feet deep, they indeed found many edible “city bricks,” which were actually rice cakes. This enabled them to win the battle. It turned out that when Wu Zixu was supervising the construction of the city wall in Cicheng, he had already prepared grain reserves to guard against famine. Since then, every year during the Lunar New Year, every household in Cicheng makes rice cakes, and they eat rice cake soup on New Year’s Eve to commemorate Wu Zixu.
