Located 20 kilometers east of Datong City, it was historically known as Hézhen Mountain, Hégān Mountain, and Cǎiyào Mountain, among other names. As an extension of the Yin Mountains, it stands at an elevation of 2,144.6 meters, making it the highest peak in the suburbs of Datong. Cailiang Mountain is renowned for its steep peaks, extremely cold climate, and year-round snow cover. "Cailiang Snow" is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Datong, celebrated in verse as "Horses neigh across the silver mountain peaks, birds take flight startled from jade-like branches."
