Cailiang Mountain

Located 20 kilometers east of Datong City, it was historically known as Hézhen Mountain, Hégān Mountain, and Cǎiyào Mountain, among other names. As an extension of the Yin Mountains, it stands at an elevation of 2,144.6 meters, making it the highest peak in the suburbs of Datong. Cailiang Mountain is renowned for its steep peaks, extremely cold climate, and year-round snow cover. "Cailiang Snow" is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Datong, celebrated in verse as "Horses neigh across the silver mountain peaks, birds take flight startled from jade-like branches." The mountain is home to birds such as grey tits, stone partridges, and falcons, and small animals like squirrels and hares can often be spotted. It also grows medicinal herbs such as astragalus and cornus. The area is rich in natural resources, including mineral deposits like lead and zinc. A notable attraction is the Red Stone Cliff.

Transportation

There is a long-distance bus station at the train station booth in Datong. You can take a local bus from the city center, which passes through Tieniu Li, heads north, then through Baima Cheng, Gudian, and into Gushan Village, Zhenchuan, Changshengzhuang, and all the way to the foot of the mountain. Alternatively, you can take a bus to Yanggao and get off at Julè.

Pass through Tieniu Li, head north, go through Baima Cheng, Gudian, enter Gushan Village, then continue to Zhanchuan, Changshengzhuang, and keep going until you reach the foot of the mountain. Alternatively, take a bus to Yanggao and get off at Julè.
