The Golden Tower is located on the hillside northwest of Yangjiaoyu Village, Ximu Town, Haicheng. It is a Liao Dynasty structure, standing approximately 31.5 meters tall, and is an octagonal, thirteen-story solid brick pagoda with dense eaves. Legend has it that when sunlight shines obliquely on the tower in the morning and evening, its body glows gloriously golden—hence the name "Golden Tower." The tower’s sculptural techniques and relief figures reflect the early characteristics of the Khitan people during the Liao Dynasty. The musical and dancing figures carved in brick on the tower, some playing the zither, others the flute, are vividly depicted and exquisitely shaped. Beneath the Golden Tower originally stood the Golden Tower Temple, built in the first year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty (1573), with the tower serving as an affiliated structure of the temple. The Golden Tower is an important historical and cultural relic from the Liao Dynasty in our city, and among the existing Liao pagodas in the province, it stands out as one of the more prominent brick structures in terms of sculptural artistry, period style, architectural technology, and scale. It is also one of the more significant Liao pagodas in the entire province. The tower features a grand architectural scale, majestic presence, and exquisite carving craftsmanship, providing extremely valuable physical material for the study of the history of the Liao Dynasty in the Anshan area, as well as the politics, economy, art, and architecture of the Khitan people.

Qianshan Zuyue Temple Zuyue Temple is one of the earliest temple structures in Qianshan. Legend has it that when the construction of the temple first began, a master monk passed by and carefully inspected the architecture, after which the temple was named Zuyue Temple. Research indicates that it was originally built during the Tang Dynasty. The initial structure was broad and magnificent—several times larger than the present one. Later, during the Jin and Yuan dynasties, a mountain flood destroyed the temple, and its ruins were located in the low, open area in front of the current site. From the ruins, archaeologists unearthed large carved stone railings, lotus-patterned pedestal columns, column bases, broken stone tablet tops, porcelain shards, and more. These artifacts provide important clues for studying the temple architecture and religious history of Qianshan. The current site of Zuyue Temple was constructed during the Ming Dynasty and was successively renovated and refurbished during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong, Daoguang, and Guangxu reigns. After the liberation, it underwent multiple repairs. There are currently seven main buildings, with the Shakyamuni Hall serving as the main hall. To its east are the Hu Xian Hall and guest rooms, while at the foot of the main hall are the east and west side halls. South of the side halls are the bell tower and drum tower, symmetrically aligned from east to west. The Shakyamuni Hall faces the temple gate directly, outside of which extends a stone wall over fifty meters long. The architecture of Zuyue Temple is relatively compact, centralized, and orderly. It is built within a winding, narrow, trumpet-shaped valley, where the terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south. The flat ground in front of the temple is about ten meters above the slope below, and the lower parts of the temple buildings were entirely elevated using stacked stones—a testament to the immense engineering challenges of the time.

Though later renovated, it retained its Ming-style architectural character...
The Giant Buddha Temple: Originally named Nanyuan Nunnery, it is located in Nanyuan Valley in the northern part of Qianshan Mountain. First built during the Tang Dynasty, it had collapsed by the Ming Dynasty. Nestled against the mountain in a narrow valley bend, the nunnery embodied the poetic imagery of “distant temple bells echoing faintly, green forests guarded by distant peaks; the temple lies so far off the path that you suddenly find its gate as the valley bends.” Surrounded by mountains on three sides and enclosed by a high wall on the fourth, the temple complex comprised seven structures…
Although nestled among surrounding peaks, Xiangyan Temple in Qianshan does not feel confined upon entering. Instead, visitors are greeted with a sense of depth and openness, with distant ridges and nearby slopes creating distinct, layered vistas. The Liaoyang County Annals record: “The temple faces the sunny side of the mountain, where flowers bloom abundantly. In spring and summer, the hillsides are covered in blossoms, filling the air with fragrance—hence the name Xiangyan (Fragrant Rock) Temple. It was once said that Xiangyan Temple boasts the most scenic spots of any in the region, ranking as the finest of all…”
