Ulanhu Memorial Hall

Ulanhu Memorial Hall is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a classic red tourism destination, and a patriotic education base.

As a national AAA-level tourist attraction and one of China’s 100 classic red tourism projects, it is situated on Xinhua West Street in Hohhot, within the city’s Botanical Garden. This modern structure boasts a distinctive ethnic style and classical Chinese architectural features, making it both an important venue for patriotic education and a popular destination for travel and leisure. - Approved by the CPC Central Committee in 1992, the memorial hall comprehensively showcases the glorious journey of Comrade [Ulanhu] from birth, to embarking on the revolutionary path, and ultimately becoming a seasoned communist fighter. In 1997, it was named a “National Patriotic Education Demonstration Base” by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. In 2004, it was honored as an “Advanced National Patriotic Education Unit” by the same department.

Covering an area of 30,000 square meters with a built-up area of 2,100 square meters, the memorial complex includes the memorial hall itself, a memorial square and statue platform, as well as a memorial pavilion and an archway gate. Above the archway, an inscription by General Yang Chengwu reading “Pride of China, Elite of the Nation” succinctly encapsulates the illustrious and heroic life of Comrade [Ulanhu].

The exhibition space spans 1,400 square meters and is divided into a foyer and eight exhibition rooms. At the center of the foyer stands a 3-meter-tall white marble statue of Comrade [Ulanhu], while the east and west walls feature four large-scale white marble-like relief sculptures, each measuring 5.5 meters in height and 3.5 meters in width. From the first to the eighth exhibition room, the displays are organized into six sections and 22 units. Utilizing revolutionary relics, historical photographs, textual descriptions, charts, paintings, models, and more, the exhibition presents a comprehensive and systematic overview of the 82 years from 1906 to 1988, reflecting the glorious life of Comrade [Ulanhu] through the lens of historical materialism.

As reform continues to advance, the Ulanhu Memorial Hall will keep developing and progressing, and is bound to become an important site for patriotic education and leisure activities for the residents of the city.
