Daqing Mountain Red Culture Park

Daqing Mountain Red Culture Park is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Daqing Mountain in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is located in the middle section of the Yin Mountains and constitutes the main body of this mountain range. It stretches over 270 kilometers from east to west, starting from Sanchakou in Jining District, Ulanqab City, in the east and extending to the Kunlun River in Baotou City in the west, with a width of about 50 kilometers from north to south. The Daqing Mountain area covers approximately 93,000 square kilometers. Over the long course of historical development, it has become a region where Mongolian people live together with Han and other ethnic minorities. The Daqing Mountain area served as the northern gateway to the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, where anti-Japanese guerrilla bases were established, creating conditions for opening up international red communication lines and playing a significant role in strengthening international anti-fascist forces. Mongolian and Han soldiers and civilians, under extremely harsh conditions, fought with unity and determination against the enemy, eventually welcoming the dawn of victory.

Major cities in the Daqing Mountain area include Hohhot, Baotou, and Ulanqab. This region is the birthplace of the revolutionary movement in Inner Mongolia, the main battlefield of the anti-Japanese struggle in the region, an important area for the national liberation movement and the “September 19” Peaceful Uprising in Inner Mongolia, and the political, economic, and cultural center where the Communist Party of China implemented regional ethnic autonomy in Inner Mongolia.

After the outbreak of the May Fourth Movement in 1919, people of all ethnicities in the Daqing Mountain area, including Mongolians and Hans, joined the tide of the anti-imperialist and patriotic movement. In the early days of the founding of the Communist Party of China, a group of progressive Mongolian revolutionary youths, including Duosongnian and Li Yuzhi, joined the Party in Beijing. During the Anti-Japanese War, Mao Zedong and the CPC Central Committee dispatched the Eighth Route Army to establish the Daqing Mountain Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base. A large number of progressive youths from various ethnic groups in the region went to Yan’an to join the revolutionary cause. During the Liberation War, leaders such as Ulanfu led the people of all ethnicities in Inner Mongolia on the path to national liberation, establishing the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Government under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The “September 19” Uprising in Suiyuan in 1949 achieved the peaceful liberation of the Daqing Mountain area. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the “merger of Mongolia and Suiyuan” was completed, realizing the successful practice of Inner Mongolia’s unification and regional ethnic autonomy. In 1954, Guisui City was renamed Hohhot and designated as the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The Daqing Mountain Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Base was a strategically important area where ethnic minority regions, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, resisted foreign aggression and ultimately achieved victory. It had a broad and profound impact on both the history of China’s War of Resistance Against Japan and the revolutionary history of Inner Mongolia. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, people of all ethnicities in the Daqing Mountain area united as one and fought bravely in succession. Over a thousand anti-Japanese soldiers sacrificed their lives on this land, and many veteran proletarian revolutionaries left their footprints here.

The Daqing Mountain Red Culture Park is a key cultural project determined by the Autonomous Region Party Committee and Government, as well as the Municipal Party Committee and Government. The park is located in the core area of the Ten-Thousand-Mu Grassland at the southern foot of Daqing Mountain in Hohhot, adjacent to the Inner Mongolia Ethnic Minority Cultural and Sports Center to the south and connected to the Daqing Mountain Fitness Trail to the north. With beautiful surroundings and convenient transportation, it is an open cultural tourism park integrating functions such as sightseeing, education, commemoration, leisure, fitness, entertainment, appreciation, ecological observation, and artistic creation.

The park covers a total area of 271.47 mu, with functional area land use covering approximately 162.3 mu, ecological greening area spanning 109.17 mu, and supporting buildings of nearly 8,000 square meters. Lush with greenery, the park features over 80 species of evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs, more than 30 types of flowers, and over a thousand large trees, making it a natural oxygen bar. The water system resembles both a jade belt and a khata, welcoming visitors from all directions. The landscape leisure plaza is spacious, and the revolutionary history exhibition hall provides a detailed account of the heroic deeds of martyrs in the Daqing Mountain area. The visitor service center is fully equipped with comprehensive facilities. The park’s internal loop roads are interconnected, pathways crisscross, and parking lots are distributed on the east and west sides.

The Inspirational Plaza serves as the core point of the southern entrance, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. At the entrance stands a scenic stone of the Daqing Mountain Red Culture Park, with an inscription of the park’s founding inscription on its back. The scenic stone is 4.7 meters high and 15 meters long, corresponding to the monument at the northern end of the park as a visual counterpoint. Along the central axis behind the scenic stone lies a ground relief featuring auspicious clouds and rivers, symbolizing blessings and remembrance. On the northern edge of the plaza is an arc-shaped red flag wall, 47 meters in length, commemorating the establishment of the first ethnic minority autonomous region in China—the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region—in 1947. The plaza is spacious, covering approximately 6,000 square meters, with passages leading to the Revolutionary History Exhibition Hall and wooden steps on both sides. The exhibition hall has a total construction area of 6,144 square meters, including 2,349 square meters above ground and 3,795 square meters underground.

The exhibition hall takes “Revolutionary Stories in the Daqing Mountain” as its theme. The “Revolutionary Martyrs of the Daqing Mountain Area” exhibition hall adopts the design concept of “The Mountain Is High, But People Are Higher,” highlighting a mountain-shaped formation composed of 290 martyrs and predecessors. Multimedia elements enhance the atmosphere, fully reflecting the solemn grandeur and outstanding achievements of the revolutionary martyrs and predecessors. The “Exhibition of the Revolutionary History of the Daqing Mountain Area” is characterized by a “front view • back view” layout. The front view—from the entrance of the exhibition hall—shows the mountain-like formation gradually rising from low to high, unfolding like overlapping mountain ranges, fully displaying the majestic presence of the Daqing Mountain. The back view—when visitors enter “the mountain”—reveals that as lighting transitions from dark to bright, the content of the Daqing Mountain’s revolutionary history unfolds sequentially from arduous struggle to glorious achievements. Exhibition tables, panels, multimedia, and other displays form the basic presentation within the mountain, while large sculptures and historical environment recreations vividly express the theme of “Revolutionary Stories in the Daqing Mountain.” The first unit is “The Thunder of May Fourth and the Awakening of the Grasslands,” the second is “National Crisis and the Struggle for Salvation,” the third is “The Thousand-Mile March and United Resolve,” the fourth is “Persevering in Resistance and Overcoming Hardships Together,” and the fifth is “Achieving Victory and Welcoming Liberation.” The “Revolutionary Predecessors of the Daqing Mountain Area” exhibition hall showcases the revolutionary predecessors who made significant contributions to the liberation of the Daqing Mountain area.

The Monument is located at the highest point on the northern side of the park, at the foot of a mountain hollow in the Daqing Mountain area. It stands 27 meters tall, imposing and solemn, with the Chinese inscription “Eternal Glory to the People’s Heroes” on the front and the Mongolian version on the back. Behind the monument are parallel flag walls embracing it on both sides, together with dense woods forming the background landscape of the monument plaza. The park also features facilities such as the Rainbow Bridge, Khata Lake, Flag-Raising Plaza, Pine-Listening Pavilion, Colorful Terrace, and Sunrise Gate Plaza.
