Highlights: Gaxian Cave is a national first-class key cultural relic protection unit in China. It was the original dwelling place of the ancestors of the Tuoba Xianbei people. Gaxian Cave is a large natural rock cave. On the right side of the cave’s interior wall, there is a stone carving inscribed with a sacrificial text left by Tuoba Tao in 443 AD (the fourth year of the Taiping Zhenjun era during the Northern Wei Dynasty), sent by him to have his minister Li Chang conduct an ancestral worship ceremony here. The text roughly describes the process of the Tuoba Xianbei people moving south out of the Greater Khingan Mountains, unifying the Yellow River basin, and establishing their rule over the Central Plains.
