The Forest of Strange Trees is located 28 kilometers southwest of Dalaihubu Town in Ejin Banner. It is a vast area that stretches from east to west and north to south. Here, the dead populus euphratica trees lie scattered across the land, presenting an ancient and pristine scene. An eerie, terrifying atmosphere seems to seep out from the surroundings, giving chills down one’s spine. This is the mysterious “Forest of Strange Trees.”

The desolate “Forest of Strange Trees” was actually formed by the mass death of populus euphratica trees. The populus euphratica is a unique tree species with extremely strong vitality. In modern times, however, due to irrational human development, the ecological environment essential for their survival has been severely damaged—especially the drying up of the Ejin River, which caused large swaths of populus euphratica forests along the riverbanks to wither from lack of water. The populus euphratica’s natural resistance to decay allows the trunks of these vast dead trees to remain standing upright on the Gobi Desert, creating a bizarre and mournful landscape.

Dalaihubu Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Ejin Banner and the seat of the banner government.
