Dongjuanyanhai Water Conservancy Scenic Area

The Dongjuanyanhai Water Conservancy Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

The Dongjuanyanhai Water Conservancy Scenic Area in Ejin Banner is located within the territory of Ejin Banner, Alxa League, built around the natural lake of Dongjuanyanhai. It is a natural river and lake-type water conservancy scenic area, with a planned area of 46 square kilometers.

Both Dongjuanyanhai and Xijuanyanhai are terminal lakes of the Heihe River. For a long time, due to unregulated and excessive development and utilization, the lake ecosystem deteriorated severely. In the 1990s, Dongjuanyanhai completely dried up. Since the implementation of the inter-provincial water diversion project of the Heihe River, Dongjuanyanhai has remained unflooded for many consecutive years, with its water area reaching over 40 square kilometers, and ecological benefits becoming increasingly evident. Currently, the scenic area boasts an intact ecosystem, a rich diversity of flora and fauna, and unique natural landscapes. The Ejin Banner government places high importance on the development of the scenic area, positioning Dongjuanyanhai Water Conservancy Scenic Area as a core tourism destination in the region. It is making scientific plans, expanding funding channels, and striving to build the area into a premium water conservancy scenic area characterized by a sound ecological environment, distinctive landscape features, and rich ethnic cultural elements.
