China Hetao Culture Museum

The China Hetao Culture Museum covers an area of 49,800 square meters with a total floor space of 64,700 square meters. Located in Linhe District, Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, China, it is a large-scale public welfare complex that combines the functions of a museum, library, art gallery, cultural center, opera house, concert hall, science and technology museum, youth palace, academy, and painting institute. It is the first museum in China named and themed around a cultural cluster, comprehensively showcasing the birth, development, maturity, and prosperity of one of the cradles of ancient Chinese civilization—the Yellow River Hetao Culture. The museum displays over 5,000 cultural relics (sets).

The China Hetao Culture Museum is situated in the Wenhua Center of Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, on the north side of May 1st Street in Linhe District (between Kaiyuan Road and Jinchuan Avenue). This museum is the first in China to be named and themed around a cultural cluster. It faces the Hetao Park to the north, where both the China Hetao Culture Museum and the Inner Mongolia Hetao Culture and Art Center are located.

The China Hetao Culture Museum and the Inner Mongolia Hetao Culture and Art Center are located in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia. This museum integrates the functions of a Hetao culture museum, library, art gallery, cultural center, Hetao culture-themed theater, youth science and technology museum, and academy/painting institute. It distills and highlights the region’s cultural ecology, ancestral evolution, rock carving history, bronze age legacy, the transformation of the Great Wall, water conservancy development, and cultural elevation across seven thematic sections, presenting the complete historical panorama of the birth, development, maturity, and prosperity of one of the cradles of ancient Chinese civilization—the Yellow River Hetao Culture.

The Hetao Culture Museum is the first in China to be named and themed around a cultural cluster. Its permanent exhibition weaves together the humanistic history of the Hetao region through the ages, displaying over 5,000 cultural relics (sets), and comprehensively showcasing the birth, development, maturity, and prosperity of Hetao culture. It serves as a three-dimensional encyclopedia of Hetao culture. The Inner Mongolia Hetao Culture and Art Center includes a themed theater and rehearsal halls built around the large-scale Yinshan Rock Carving epic performance “Yinshan · Ancient Song.”

The China Hetao Culture Museum and the Inner Mongolia Hetao Culture and Art Center are important platforms for promoting and showcasing Hetao culture. They play a positive and far-reaching role in exploring the essence of Hetao culture, building its brand, and enhancing the region’s cultural soft power. According to reports, over the past several thousand years, frontier fortress culture, Yellow River culture, grassland culture, and farming culture have converged, merged, been passed down, and accumulated in the Hetao region of Inner Mongolia, forming a distinctive regional, ethnic, and inclusive Hetao cultural system.
