Damkou Rock Carvings

The Yinshan Rock Carvings in Urad Rear Banner are mainly distributed in the eastern section of Tanyankou in Qingshan Town, Damkou in Bayanbulage, and Bari Gully. The subjects and content of the rock carvings are rich, primarily reflecting the social life of ancient hunting and nomadic peoples. Among them, animal rock carvings include goats, sheep, argali, blue sheep, horses, cattle, donkeys, and camels. Many wild animal images are highly dynamic—some with necks outstretched in long calls, some glancing back, some walking steadily, and others leaping with vigor—creating a powerful artistic effect. In addition to animal rock carvings, there are also sections depicting hunting and herding scenes, which are vividly portrayed. As a pearl of the ancient northern grassland and mountain culture, the Yinshan Rock Carvings hold significant historical value. On May 10, 1986, the Damkou Rock Carvings area was designated as a key cultural relic protection zone at the autonomous region level.
