Haizhuang Park

Located on Nanhua West Road in Haizhu District, it covers an area of 19,000 square meters. Originally the Qianqiu Temple from the Southern Han Dynasty, it was developed into Haizhuang Temple—one of the five major Buddhist monasteries in Guangzhou—during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, and was turned into a park in 1932. The park houses many cultural relics and historic sites as well as ancient and famous trees, such as the Mahavira Hall, the Great Bronze Bell, the Yōumíng (Underworld) Iron Bell, the Thousand-Hand Guanyin statue, a 400-year-old skew-leaf banyan, a 360-year-old eagle-claw orchid, a 300-year-old bodhi banyan, and the Taihu rock “Fierce Tiger Turning Head” from the garden of the Wu family—the descendants of Wu Bingjian, leader of the Thirteen Hongs in the Qing Dynasty. There are also the Four Heavenly Kings Hall, the Sixteen Arhats, and some recreational facilities.

Haizhuang Subdistrict: Haizhuang Subdistrict is located in the northwest of Haizhu District and is the site of the Haizhu District Committee and District Government. The subdistrict covers a total area of 1.45 square kilometers, with 28,300 households in total (including 21,800 registered households and 6,500 non-registered households), and a total population of 89,000 (including 68,000 registered residents and 21,000 non-registered residents). Haizhuang Subdistrict was formed in May 1998 through the merger of the former Baogang Subdistrict, Haizhuang Subdistrict, and Yuelong Subdistrict, and is a typical administrative subdistrict in an old urban area.
