Ancient Architectural Complex of Longtan Village

The ancient architectural complex of Longtan Village is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

The ancient architectural complex of Longtan Village is located in Longtan Village, Huazhou Subdistrict, Haizhu District. It includes Xingren Academy, Donghu Ancestral Hall, the Memorial Archway for Chastity and Filial Piety, Yinglong Bridge, Lipu Bridge, Huiyuan Bridge, and Kangji Bridge. Longtan Village is situated in the southeastern part of Haizhu District. In ancient times, it was part of the seabed, and it gradually emerged as land over a thousand years ago. During the Qing Dynasty, Longtan Village was under the jurisdiction of Henan Fort, Qiaotang Division, Panyu County, Guangzhou Prefecture. It slowly grew and developed into a well-known riverside village on the southern bank of the Pearl River. However, what truly made Longtan Village famous was a philanthropist named Bai Lunsheng, who brought the only charitable memorial archway in Guangzhou to the village. The Bai Ancestral Hall in the village is also the best-preserved Qing Dynasty building among similar structures in Guangzhou. In addition, along the river in Longtan Village, there are several ancestral halls such as the Huang Ancestral Hall, and century-old banyan trees are spread throughout the village, creating a scenic sight.
