The Ancient City of Woye Town

The Ancient City of Woye Town is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Ancient City of Woye Town is located about 5 kilometers southeast of Sudulun Township, Wulate Front Banner (Xishanzui Town), Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and was built during the Northern Wei Dynasty. The ancient city stretches 1,040 meters from east to west and 680 meters from north to south. On the eastern part of its southern wall, there is also an outer wall that extends approximately 340 meters from east to west and about 200 meters from north to south. The remaining wall ruins are 0.5 to 1.3 meters high. Bricks, tiles, and broken pottery fragments can be found throughout the city, and lotus-patterned thin eaves tiles from the Northern Wei Dynasty have been unearthed.

The ancient city consists of three connected sections—central, eastern, and western—forming a "convex" shape. The central section is the longest and largest, protruding to the south, measuring 375 meters wide from east to west and 600 meters long from north to south; the eastern section is 334 meters wide and 571 meters long; the western section is 282 meters wide and 571 meters long. The walls have long collapsed into earthen ridges, which are now about 40 meters wide and 1 to 2 meters high. The central section has a gate opening to the south, with tall earthen mounds on the east and west sides of the gate, each about 8 meters high, believed to be the ruins of watchtowers from the ancient town.

In May 2006, the Ancient City of Woye Town, as a historical site from the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, was approved by the State Council to be included in the sixth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
