Shima Peach Blossom Park

Shima Peach Blossom Park is the first peach blossom-themed park in Guangzhou. It is located in Shima Village, Junhe Street, Baiyun District, with a construction area of 149,090 square meters. The first phase of the park was completed in mid-December 2005. The park is positioned as a comprehensive public park that combines leisure, sightseeing, sports, events, and art exhibitions, and has become the largest district-level urban park in Baiyun District.

The planting of peach trees in Shima Village, a new town, has a history of two to three hundred years. Before the 1940s, the focus was on fruit production. The peaches grown here were not very large, with greenish-white skin and crimson speckles near the vertical seam. They were sweet, crisp, and rich in peach flavor, enjoying great renown among fellow Chinese in Hong Kong and Macau. After the 1940s, ornamental peach blossoms were introduced from Xizhao in Fangcun. Thanks to Shima’s location by the Liuxi River and its fertile, soft soil—ideal for peach tree growth—the blossoms became increasingly vibrant, gradually becoming an indispensable “star” in Guangzhou’s Spring Festival flower markets. Shima peach blossoms are known for their abundant buds, bright colors, and long blooming period, making them perfect for vase arrangements. As the Lunar New Year approaches, buying a flourishing peach blossom plant to bring the vitality of spring into one’s home and to express good wishes for the new year has become a local tradition for Guangzhou residents. Due to the short growth cycle and high returns of peach blossom cultivation, it has gradually replaced the production of Shima sweet peaches. Nowadays, peach blossom planting is no longer limited to Shima Village; nearby Qinghu Village also cultivates several hundred acres of them.
