Xuanxing Village

Xuanxing Village is located in Conghua, Guangzhou. Though close to the city, it boasts a quaint, rustic charm far removed from the urban bustle. It is said that this ancient village, dating back to the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, is home to over a thousand descendants of the Liu family. Legend has it that Liu Wei, the 70th-generation descendant of Emperor Gaozu of Han (Liu Bang), was the first to settle here. To escape the wars during the transition from the Yuan to the Ming dynasty, he — originally from Xuzhou, Jiangsu — like many others migrating southward, headed toward Guangdong and Fujian. His journey took him from Jiangsu across the Yangtze River into Jiangxi, then over the Five Ridges into Guangdong. He rested at Zhujixiang in Nanxiong City, bordering Jiangxi, before moving on. Due to an influx of refugees from the north making the area crowded and hard to sustain, he relocated to Gaoji Street in Guangzhou, then to Luogang, and finally settled in Xuankeng near the hot springs town of Conghua — the site of today’s Xuanxing Village.

Xuanxing Village is picturesque, with beautiful mountains and clear waters. The locals are hardworking, the land bountiful, and the people friendly and hospitable. It belongs to Taoyuan Town in Conghua City, Guangdong Province, and is under the jurisdiction of Conghua. The village enjoys a beautiful environment, flat terrain, abundant resources, and convenient transportation. It serves as an important cultural and commercial hub for the town. The annual trade fair attracts numerous merchants and has effectively boosted the local economy. As an ancient village, Xuanxing also features historical sites such as the Yuntai Mountain Battlefield Ruins, Donghua Ancient Temple, and ancestral halls of the Lu and Liu families. A clear pond lies in front of the village, and several lanes run through it, offering a glimpse into its former prosperity.
