Senggelinqin Museum

Senggelinqin, born in 1811 in Baixingtugacha, Agula Town, Horqin Left Rear Banner, was appointed by the imperial court at the age of 14 (in 1825) as the 10th Jasag Doroi Prince of Horqin Left Rear Banner. In the fifth year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1855), serving as an imperial envoy, he led eight thousand Mongolian cavalry in a bloody battle against the Anglo-French allied forces at Dagu Fort in Tianjin during the Second Opium War, earning military merit for defending national dignity. For this, the Qing court conferred upon him the title "Bodoligetai" and granted him the rank of prince.

Senggelinqin was highly valued during the Daoguang, Xianfeng, and Tongzhi reigns of the Qing Dynasty, holding positions such as Imperial Consultant, Imperial Envoy, Rear Guard, as well as key roles including League Chief of Jirem League, Commander-in-Chief of the Eight Manchu Banners and Ten Mongolian Banners, and Leader of the Imperial Bodyguard. Over his forty-year tenure, he was repeatedly dispatched to lead military campaigns, achieving remarkable feats and making indelible contributions to safeguarding the nation’s independence and dignity.

To commemorate Senggelinqin and carry forward his patriotic spirit, the Banner Committee and Banner Government invested over 3 million yuan in 1995 to begin constructing the Senggelinqin Museum. Located 4 kilometers along the Ganqika–Jirgalang Highway, the museum covers an area of 13,000 square meters, including a main hall with 15 rooms, five rooms on each of the east and west wings, a corridor over 100 meters long, as well as an entrance hall, side rooms, and a bronze statue of Senggelinqin. The entire compound consists of classical-style architecture, featuring front porches and rear eaves, upturned roof corners, carved beams and painted rafters, all resplendent and magnificent. The museum serves as a patriotic education base in our banner, one of its tourist attractions, and also functions as a cultural relics protection and management institution.

Agula Town: A sumu (township) under the jurisdiction of Horqin Left Rear Banner. "Agula" is the written Mongolian word for "mountain." Established as the Agula People's Commune in 1958 and reorganized as a sumu in 1984, it is located in the central-northern part of the banner, 60 kilometers from the banner seat.
