Huashan Reservoir

Located 11 kilometers southwest of the county seat in Shixing County, Guangdong Province, Huashan Reservoir was started in 1976 and fully completed in 1986. The reservoir has a catchment area of 48.2 square kilometers and a total storage capacity of 14.41 million cubic meters. It is a multi-functional, model, medium-sized water conservancy project serving primarily flood control, urban water supply, and farmland irrigation, while also supporting hydroelectric power generation, tourism, and aquaculture.

The Huashan Reservoir irrigation area includes one north and one south main canal, totaling 33 kilometers in length, irrigating 11,100 mu of farmland. There is also a power station behind the dam with a total installed capacity of 320 kilowatts (2 x 160 kilowatts), generating 1.35 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, and supplying 12,500 tons of drinking water to the county seat daily. In 1997, Huashan Reservoir was designated as a pilot site for environmental improvement and "single-reservoir system" construction in Guangdong Province’s water conservancy system, and was also awarded the title of “Civilized Unit of Guangdong Province Water Conservancy System” in the same year.

Known as the “Huashan Flat Lake,” Huashan Reservoir is one of the ten scenic spots of Shixing County. The Huashan Flat Lake scenic area is surrounded by competing peaks and lush forests, offering a tranquil environment with beautiful lake and mountain views. In spring and summer, the hills are covered in blooming flowers, while in autumn and winter, the mountains are tinged with red leaves. Every autumn, thousands of white cranes come to rest among the lake and woods, creating a spectacular and rare scene set against the green mountains and clear waters that amazes and enchants all visitors.

Leveraging its water and land resources, the Huashan Reservoir Management Office has focused on reservoir operations and the development of both material and spiritual civilization, while also engaging in diversified operations and vigorously developing tourism—with notable results. Scenic spots such as Happy Forest, Crane Island, Sunrise Pavilion, and a barbecue area have been built, along with water amusement activities including pedal boats, speedboats, and motorboat lake tours. A paintball combat club—the only one in the city that combines military combat simulation, sports, and recreational leisure—has also been established. The scenic area also features Pinghu Villa, which integrates dining, lodging, conferences, and entertainment. The villa is luxuriously decorated, comfortable, and serene, capable of hosting various group banquets.
