The Shixing County Museum is located on the banks of the Mo River in the eastern part of the county town, covering an area of 4,881 square meters. The museum features a clear pond teeming with fish, lush trees, and swaying bamboo. Its uniquely designed exhibition building complements the shimmering waters of the nearby Mo River, creating an elegant environment. It has six permanent exhibition halls showcasing “Dinosaur Wonders,” “Spectacular Rocks,” “Root Carving Art,” “Qing Dynasty Hakka Wedding Customs in Shixing,” and “Historical Relics.” These five fixed exhibitions are supplemented by one hall that regularly hosts temporary exhibits. All displays use a wealth of physical objects, photographs, text, models, and more to vividly illustrate the wonders of nature and the remarkable history of humankind. Visitors can expand their knowledge, broaden their horizons, and enjoy the beauty on display. It’s a great destination for travelers. It is currently recognized as a municipal-level patriotic education base in Shaoguan City.

Five of the exhibits are permanent, while one features regularly changing temporary displays. The five permanent exhibition halls cover: Prehistoric Fossil Wonders, which display over 200 fossils of ancient creatures found locally, including dinosaurs, dinosaur eggs, and turtles dating back 65 million years. Among these, dinosaur bones, eggs, and ancient turtle fossils are the most captivating to visitors. Known as the “Hometown of Dinosaurs,” Shixing has seen the discovery of over 30 dinosaur bone fossil sites and over 50 dinosaur egg fossil sites on the rolling hills along both sides of the Zhen River in the northeastern part of the county town. These sites stretch approximately 20 kilometers in length and 4 kilometers in width and date back 65 million years. Representative fossil specimens unearthed from these sites are now exhibited in the hall.

The exhibitions are open to visitors year-round. There are no fixed visiting hours—reservations can be made, or visitors may come anytime at their convenience, making it extremely accessible. The distance from Shaoguan to Shixing is 60 kilometers, with smooth roads offering direct or passing buses available day and night, ensuring convenient transportation. The museum also provides free assistance to visitors in arranging accommodation, dining, and transportation.
