The Morning Sun Over the Vermilion Phoenix

The Morning Sun Over the Vermilion Phoenix is located at the northern corner of Shixing. A mountain stretches across the area. Legend has it that during the Liang Dynasty, a vermilion phoenix gathered at the mountaintop, soaring ceaselessly amid auspicious clouds, hence the name Vermilion Phoenix Mountain. In 1990, it was developed into a park. The main gate bears five golden characters “丹凤山公园” (Vermilion Phoenix Mountain Park), inscribed by Ye Xuanping, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Inside the park, pine waves rustle gently, and fields of grain flowers bloom brilliantly. Along the winding mountain road, visitors will find a number of pavilions such as Ninghui and Zhiyuan waiting to greet them—tranquil and elegant spots beloved by couples. At the western end of the mountain’s summit, a newly built martyrs’ cemetery stands. Its main monument faces Nanshan’s Brush Rack Peak in the distance, towering into the clouds with majestic presence. It features an inscription by former Vice Governor Yang Kanghua: “Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs of Shixing.” On holidays, mourners come in great numbers. Standing in the square, one can overlook the new look of Shixing, with its network of rivers and streets spreading out as far as the eye can see.
