Nanshan Nature Reserve

Nanshan Nature Reserve is located southwest of Shixing County. In 2005, it was approved as a provincial-level nature reserve by the provincial government, and in 2009, it was included in the Chinese Biosphere Reserve Network, covering a total area of 7,113 hectares. The reserve is home to 1,106 species of vascular plants from 626 genera and 219 families, including 122 species of ferns from 63 genera and 32 families, 15 species of gymnosperms from 12 genera and 12 families, and 969 species of angiosperms from 551 genera and 67 families. Among these, 13 species are under national key protection, such as Fujian cypress, Machilus kurzii, Semiliquidambar cathayensis, Cibotium barometz, Zelkova schneideriana, Ormosia henryi, Ptychopetalum olivaceum, and Cephalotaxus harringtonia var. drupacea, and Alsophila denticulata. There are 215 species of vertebrates, belonging to 168 genera, 83 families, and 33 orders. Among them, 21 species are under national key protection, including the Hainan blue-crested goshawk, yellow-bellied tragopan, pangolin, sambar deer, serow, silver pheasant, tiger frog, and brown-winged cuckoo.
