Ruowei Castle Ruins

The Ruowei Castle Ruins are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

The Ruowei Castle Ruins are located at the confluence of the Zhenjiang and Mojiang rivers at Litouzui in Luowei Village, Taiping Town, Shixing County. They date back to the Han Dynasty and were discovered in 1984. The site is situated against a mountain and beside a river, with a nearly triangular layout covering an area of over 8,000 square meters. The city walls were built with river pebbles at the base and rammed earth above. The perimeter is 420 meters, the base width is 4 meters, the top width is 2 meters, and the wall height ranges from 3 to 4 meters. The interior of the castle is higher in the south and lower in the north. In the south, there is a platform approximately 60 meters long, 12 meters wide, and 2.5 meters high. In the north, there is a gap about 6 meters wide, which might have been a gateway. Artifacts unearthed include roof tiles—flat and tubular—some decorated with rope patterns or smoothed rope patterns, others plain. The inner surfaces of the rope-patterned tiles feature dotted textures, while others show cloth textures. Pottery finds include jars and pots, some adorned with grid patterns, a few with square or circular stamped designs, and others with incised string patterns. Although this site is not recorded in historical texts, its military function is evident. Based on the artifacts, its usage spanned from the Western Han to the Eastern Han Dynasty.

In June 1989, the People's Government of Guangdong Province designated it as a cultural heritage site.
