Baishiping Site

The Baishiping Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Baishiping Site is located on the west side of Duofengtang Village, Taiping Town, Shixing County. It dates back to the Warring States period. Discovered in 1961, around 30 square meters were excavated in 1962. The cultural layer is 1.5 meters thick. One oval-shaped pottery kiln was unearthed, now damaged, likely belonging to a vertical-shaft kiln. A large number of pottery fragments were recovered, identifiable items including cauldrons, jars, pots, vats, basins, boxes, bowls, cups, tripods, etc. The decorative patterns mainly consist of rice-grain motifs, grid patterns, double-line intersecting grid patterns, and wave patterns, along with a small number of combined double-line intersecting grid and grid motifs, as well as various stamped or incised designs such as thundercloud patterns, punctate comb patterns, string patterns, and stripe patterns. Fifteen types of incised symbols were also found. Stone tools include axes, adzes, chisels, spears, and whetstones. Ironware consists of axes and spades. In addition, a small number of roof tiles with rope patterns, tubular tiles, and one tile-end were found, suggesting they may date from a slightly later period.

The town covers a total land area of over 170 square kilometers, including 180,000 mu of forested land. It administers 16 villages and 4 community neighborhood committees, with a total population of 57,000. In 2000, it passed the provincial rural well-off standard acceptance inspection and was designated as one of the 268 central towns by the provincial government.
