Ruins of Zhongzhen Village

The ruins of Zhongzhen Village are a cultural heritage site protected by Shixing County.

The ruins of Zhongzhen Village are located to the west of Zhongzhen Village, Chengnan Town, Shixing County. Archaeologically, they date back to the late Neolithic Age. A trial excavation was carried out in 1975, during which two ash pits were cleared. Cultural layer artifacts unearthed include pottery items such as bowls, tripods, tripod feet, and ring-footed vessels, adorned with decorative patterns like cord marks, zigzag patterns, vortex patterns, and five-ring dot designs. Polished stone tools such as axes and adzes were also found. According to their cultural characteristics, they can be classified under the Shixia Culture.

In 1990, the People's Government of Shixing County designated them as a cultural heritage site.

Chengnan Town: Originally part of the ancient Cathaysia landmass, Chengnan Town has been home to ancient human activity since 1975, when archaeologists discovered multiple ancient sites, tombs, and relics in the area. Research indicates that people had already settled and thrived in the Chengnan region over six thousand years ago.

Throughout the long course of history, due to wars and natural disasters, populations from the Central Plains (modern-day Fujian and Jiangxi regions) migrated southward several times. They settled in the largest basin of northern Guangdong—the Shixing Basin—making this fertile land their home and living and working there across generations.
