Ancient Residential Buildings of Da'anping Village

The ancient residential buildings of Da'anping Village are located in Da'anping Village, Hongli Village Committee, Mashi Town, Shixing County, Shaoguan City. These Qing Dynasty-era residences consist of a set of six single-story houses arranged in two rows, facing from southeast to northwest, with a total width of 55 meters and a depth of 56 meters. Each building has a central hall (ancestral hall) flanked by living quarters on the left and right, forming a layout of two halls and four rooms, with gabled roofs covered in green tiles. This area features a rare local configuration of six halls interconnected from front to back. Another group consists of a square tower with a square floor plan, each side measuring 15.5 meters, and about five stories high, reaching approximately 18.6 meters. The arched door plaque reads “Bamboo and Pine in Prosperity” and dates to the 11th year of the Xianfeng reign. The structure has red sandstone foundation walls, grey brick walls, slightly protruding battlements, and internal wooden stairs for ascending the floors. It holds reference value for the study of Hakka residential architecture.
