Hongwei in ShenSuo Town is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Guangdong Province.

Hongwei in ShenSuo Town is located in Shenyang Village, ShenSuo Town. The entire structure is built with reddish-brown sand-lime mortar and river stones up to the top, and its outer walls are a striking crimson red, hence the name “Hongwei” (Red Enclosure). The enclosure faces southeast and is situated northwest, measuring 27.05 meters in width and 36.08 meters in depth, with five stories reaching about 15 meters in height. The roof tiles have been destroyed, leaving only the surrounding ruined walls with vertical, narrow windows that are taller on the inside and shorter on the outside. The walls are solid and sturdy, with the outer walls of the ground floor being one meter thick. The lintel above the gate is inscribed with the characters “Dian An” (Settle in Peace), and the building was constructed during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. From the spring and summer of 1940 to the spring of 1941, the former office of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China was located here, directing the anti-Japanese resistance efforts of the people across the province. In February 1945, it was burned down by Japanese troops who had invaded Shixing County. The former site of the Provincial Committee at Hongwei is the only pre-liberation provincial committee site discovered so far in our province that still exists. It stands as a significant historical testament to the Party’s leadership in the revolutionary struggle of the people of Guangdong, and holds great historical importance. In 2009, it was added to the sixth batch of Guangdong Provincial Cultural Heritage Protection Units.
