Yongcheng Baozhang Wei

Yongcheng Baozhang Wei is located in Donghuping Village, Taiping Town (Taiping Town Donghuping Ethnic Culture Village). The entire enclosed building is constructed from brick, stone, tile, and wood. The structure faces south and is rectangular in shape, measuring 19.12 meters in width and 20 meters in depth, with four stories reaching about 11 meters in height. The top floor features overhanging eaves on all four sides, with slightly higher and protruding corners. The walls are built with river stones all the way to the top, the archway is made of red sandstone, the corners and windows are built with blue bricks, and the outer wall of the ground floor is 1.3 meters thick. There is a courtyard inside the enclosure, and floors above the second have corridors (verandas) on all four sides. Inside the courtyard, there is a well, with a circular well curb carved from red sandstone, measuring 0.92 meters in diameter. The lintel reads “Yongcheng Baozhang” (“Eternal Security”), with the upper inscription: “Made in the winter of the 21st year of the Guangxu reign of the Great Qing by brothers, uncles, and nephews of Jingchuan,” and the lower inscription: “Written by Zhang Zhidong of Xianyan.”

Yongcheng Baozhang Wei is situated on relatively flat land on the right bank of the Mo River, where the soil is fertile. The area has a subtropical monsoon climate, with abundant sunshine and rainfall, and an annual precipitation of 1,500 millimeters. Vegetation includes pine, fir, and other types of trees. About 1 kilometer to the east is Jiujingkeng Village, 0.5 kilometers to the south is Shishixia Village, to the west lies the Mo River and National Highway 323, and to the north is Shiquan Rock. The villagers are surnamed Zeng, with 95 households and around 320 people. The houses are clustered on the flat fields on the right bank of the Mo River, mostly single-story buildings made of blue bricks, tiles, wood, and mud bricks, arranged in a strip pattern.
