Wangwu Village Walled Compound

Wangwu Village Walled Compound is located in Wangwu, Xincun, Dungang Town, about 9 kilometers southeast of Shixing County. It was built during the Qing Dynasty by ancestors of the Wang family, situated on the eastern bank of the Qinghua River, in the northeastern corner of the Qinghua River alluvial plain.

The compound faces south with its back to the north, with walls built entirely of pebbles up to the roof, featuring a pair of pot-ear-shaped gable ridges (without tops) on both sides, drum-studded eave patterns, corners inlaid with blue bricks, and windows in vertical linear, pagoda, and cross shapes made of red sandstone. It has a double-sloped gable and hip roof.

Rectangular in shape, 5 stories high, approximately 11 meters tall, 8 meters wide, and 7 meters deep, covering a floor area of 56 square meters. The surrounding wall is 1.1 meters thick, with an arched gate made of blue bricks. The upper half of the walls has collapsed, and the interior is damaged.

Dungang Town: Dungang Town is an important part of the Shixing Basin, originally part of the ancient Chinese landmass. Over the long course of history, due to wars and natural disasters, people from the Central Plains (now the Fujian and Jiangxi regions) migrated southward several times. They settled, lived, and worked on this fertile land in the largest basin in northern Guangdong—the Shixing Basin—and thrived here through generations.

Due to the historical needs of military garrisoning and grain storage, storage facilities and barracks were established in major villages along the Shixing–Yuan route. Over time, these villages came to be named after the barracks or garrisons, resulting in Five Garrisons (such as Wu Garrison, Zhou Garrison, Luo Garrison, Shen Garrison...).
