Yulong Sand Lake is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Yulong Sand Lake Tourist Area is located in the northeast of Wudan Town, Ongniud Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, on the western edge of the Horqin Sandy Land. It is 90 kilometers from Chifeng City. The banner government seat in Wudan Town is connected to the scenic area by a third-grade oil road. Situated approximately 500 kilometers from first-tier cities such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Shenyang, it is known as the nearest and most beautiful desert singing sand tourist area. In 2013, it was rated as a national AAAA-level ecological tourist attraction. In 1971, the renowned Neolithic Hongshan culture artifact—“China’s First Dragon”—was unearthed here, pushing back the origin of China’s 5,000-year-old ancient civilization by more than a thousand years. As a result, the scenic area was named “Yulong Sand Lake.”

The surface of Yulong Sand Lake spans over 10,000 mu, featuring more than ten unique sand islands in the lake. The over 10,000 mu of freshwater resources in Burendun Lake are home to twelve fish species, including crucian carp, common carp, silver carp, grass carp, and bighead carp. On the edge of the vast desert to the north of the lake, a peculiar rocky mountain rises abruptly from the flat ground. Its bizarre rocks and trees take on diverse and vivid shapes, including Pigeon Rock, Quail Rock, Mushroom Rock, Jar Rock, and Yin-Yang Rock. To the southwest of the lake lies Huanghua Mountain, and to the northwest stands Dahei Mountain, which tower like two massive screens. The mountains feature uniquely shaped peaks and stones, such as Camel Buddha, Immortal Finger, and Dragon Gate.

The Yulong Sand Lake Resort combines desert, sandy land, ancient pines, bizarre rocks, peculiar peaks, wetlands, grasslands, and lakes. Five hundred thousand mu of grassland connects seamlessly with the boundless Horqin Sandy Land. Within the sandy land, there is a spring that gushes nearly one meter high, discharging hundreds of tons of water per hour, forming a lake in the desert. There are also more than ten sand islands in the lake, creating a unique landscape of sand with lakes, lakes with islands, islands with grass, and grass with birds. From June to October each year, the area boasts blue skies, bright sunshine, white sand, clear blue water, green grass, lush woods, and throngs of visitors. It receives around 200,000 domestic and international tourists annually.

The interplay between grassland and desert forms a unique natural scenic line. The area also offers traditional ethnic charm, including beautiful and moving Mongolian songs and dances, distinctive Mongolian cuisine, uniquely styled yurts, and traditional grassland festivals such as the Nadam Fair and the grand Obo worship ceremony. Boating on the lake, wandering the grassland, stepping into the desert, and taking in the view of blue water, white sand, leaping fish, and solitary smoke in the desert create a majestic and spectacular scene. The tourist area features a souvenir shop offering nearly 100 types of Mongolian clothing and accessories for visitors to purchase. The mineral water produced in the area, known as Auspicious Sweet Dew, contains various minerals beneficial to health and is highly praised by tourists. This year, ten new high-end Mongolian yurt accommodations have been added to address the issue of limited lodging. In terms of entertainment, new activities such as camel riding in the desert and off-road sand adventures have been introduced, along with a newly built high-end horse racing field and the newly developed Haodaotu Mountain scenic area.
