Tomb of Sun Yousong

The Tomb of Sun Yousong is a cultural heritage site protected by Zijin County.

The Tomb of Sun Yousong is located on Mantang Mountain in Conghetang, Ta'ao Village, Zhongba Town, Zijin County. It is the burial site of Sun Yousong, the founding ancestor of the Sun clan who migrated south to Guangdong during the Ming Dynasty, covering an area of 30 square meters. The tomb faces east and is built from lime and sand, consisting of a grave platform, sacrificial altar, tombstone, and grave frame. The tombstone stands 0.44 meters high and 0.40 meters wide. The inscriptions, carved in intaglio, read “Renovated on the ninth day of the eighth month in the 55th year of the Kangxi reign; Tomb of the Founding Ancestor Sun Yousong, Sun Bosan Shisanlang; Erected jointly by descendants of the four major branches.”

According to *The Biography of Dr. Sun Yat-sen*, published in Taipei: “During the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty, a man named Yousong relocated once again to Zhongba in Zijin County, situated along the upper reaches of the Dong River in Guangdong Province. He was the first ancestor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s lineage to settle in Guangdong… The twelfth-generation ancestor, Sun Lianchang, moved to Zengcheng; during the mid-Kangxi period, he relocated again from Zengcheng to Yongkoumen Village in Xiangshan County (now Zhongshan City).” “In the mid-Qianlong era, the fourteenth-generation ancestor, Sun Dianchao—Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s great-great-grandfather—moved from Yongkoumen Village to Cuiheng Village.”

In 1987, the People's Government of Zijin County designated it as a cultural heritage protection unit.
